Probably the most bizarre comic in a while…
By the way, no offense meant to my deaf readers! If anything, I probably meant more offense to my hearing readers.
Yes! I hate subtitles on anything in english or danish (my native tongue). I soooo long for the day when I get to turn them off in the cinema as well :-)
One time I was watching a movie, and the closed captioning even told me when there was silence. I am not kidding.
That’s legit, though — sort of like pages that are marked “This page intentionally left blank.” Which of course is a paradox, since it’s no longer blank. ;-) Anyway, I’ve had a few times where the CC stream broke down in the middle due to poor cable reception, prior to the digital TV era*, so I could see where a totally deaf person might be concerned that the closed captions had failed, rather than being merely a moment of intentional silence. In modern times it’s probably less useful.
* Thanks to codecs, on digital TV “poor reception” means the entire channel just ceases to work — not a day goes by where I don’t curse the local network “upgrade”, since I’d rather have a bit of grainy interference rather than occasional three to ten second total interruptions in my broadcast. Holy regression, Batman.
